Gymnasium LED Lighting Retrofit Delivers Savings With Better Lighting
In mid 2014, the District 5 Schools of Spartanburg County, South Carolina began exploring opportunities to save energy, reduce maintenance costs, and improve overall lighting in its schools. Their first project with Net Zero USA involved updating T8 fluorescent light fixtures throughout the Byrnes Freshman Academy with Net Zero USA’s 30-watt and 40-watt LED lighting retrofit kits. Impressed with the 60% energy savings and increased brightness provided by the initial project, Net Zero USA was again selected to handle a lighting upgrade, this time improving the lighting in the high school gymnasium.
The Byrnes High School gymnasium was originally equipped with 32 metal halide fixtures ranging in wattage from 250-watts up to 1,000-watts which collectively burned over 63,000 kWh each year. Thanks to Net Zero USA’s HID LED retrofits, this figure was reduced to under 19,000 kWh, a 70.5% reduction in lighting consumption.
The gymnasium lighting upgrade used a combination of Net Zero USA’s HID LED retrofits in 75-watt, 130-watt, and 360-watt LED configurations. As a result of this energy efficient improvement, Spartanburg County District 5 Schools via the Byrnes High School gymnasium will save a cumulative $27,861 dollars over 5 years. And because LED lighting is solid-state technology, the maintenance crew will save countless hour from not having to climb up ladders and replace burnt-out light bulbs.
We are very pleased with the LED light replacement project at the James F. Byrnes High School Schofield Gymnasium. Net Zero USA worked closely with us to schedule the project around our winter sports schedule and completed the work in a very timely manner. Employees were very professional and cleaned up when the job was complete. We look forward to working with Net Zero USA in the future as we seek to replace more incandescent bulbs with LED technology.School Representative
