Spartanburg County School Targets LED Lighting Upgrade
Spartanburg County Schools needed an energy efficient LED lighting solution for their District 5 schools. They reached out to Net Zero USA to help find a way to reduce energy costs across the school districts and also improve their fluorescent light fixtures that were plagued by ballast burnouts and constant humming, creating a number of distractions to students within the classrooms.
Net Zero USA provided a turnkey LED lighting retrofit for the Byrnes Freshman Academy which resulted in better quality lighting and dramatic energy savings – approximately $27,931 dollars annually.
The project utilized Net Zero USA’s 30-watt and 40-watt LED lighting retrofit kits which were installed into existing fluorescent light fixtures throughout the school. Thanks to the lighting upgrade, this Spartanburg County school will reduce lighting energy consumption by over 60%, saving more than 165,000 kWh each year.
Net Zero USA provided a 10 year warranty on the LED strips used in this project, meaning the school will see a tremendous level of maintenance savings in addition to their energy savings.
And because Net Zero USA’s LED lighting retrofit kits are DLC qualified, Byrnes Freshman Academy was able to take advantage of a lighting rebate offered by Duke Energy which totaled nearly $60,000 dollars.
Since the LED lights have been installed in my classroom, I can honestly say they’ve performed exactly as Net Zero USA said they would. Installation was done quickly and without any interruption of my classes. The LED lights come on instantly, without any flickering, and the level of brightness is equal throughout my room. It’s like going from a 12-inch black and white TV to a 60-inch 3D screen! Students have commented on how much brighter the room is too. An additional benefit with these LED lights is that there is no hum or buzz which you can get from fluorescent bulbs.Glenn Sparkman, Teacher
